Corpus Christi Living
Corpus Christi is a unique coastal community nestled on the Gulf of Mexico between the major metropolitan areas of Houston and San Antonio. The city boasts a rich history dating back to Alonzo de Pineda’s first sighting on the day of the Feast of Corpus Christi in 1519. Today, Corpus Christi offers affordable coastal living in a growing and vibrant community.
HOUSING
A variety of housing options are available to residents and their families. Many residents choose to live on Padre Island while others choose the new neighborhoods and apartments of the bustling south side or the quiet areas near the Corpus Christi Bay. With a cost of living well below the national average, you are sure to find housing to meet your needs and desires at a cost you can afford.
SCHOOLS
For those residents with families, the area offers nineteen school districts. Thirteen Corpus Christi Independent School District campuses were recently rated as exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. A number of private school options are also available in the area. Daycare facilities are provided at the hospital for those residents with preschool age children.
TOURISM
Tourism is a large part of the city’s economy and residents benefit from many of the attractions that bring tourists to visit the “Sparkling City by the Sea.” The Texas State Aquarium, Lexington Museum, Museum of Natural History, Asian Cultural Museum, and The Art Museum of South Texas all line the picturesque bayfront.
Whataburger Field is home to the local minor league Hooks Baseball team. The American Bank Center plays host to the Ice Rays hockey franchise and the indoor football league Sharks. Old Concrete Street is an open air amphitheater that rounds out the downtown entertainment scene. Local restaurants, clubs, and music venues add to the casual Corpus Christi nightlife.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
The outdoors is what draws most tourists to Corpus Christi. The beaches and bays are our South Texas playground. Local fishing and hunting attract tourists from around the nation. The Aransas national wildlife refuge has world class birding with a chance to spot rare whooping cranes. Kayaking, jet skiing, sailing, surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are among some of the watersports residents may spend their free time pursuing. When off duty, our residents have plenty of opportunities to get outside.
